Biltong and dress sense

Posted by Angelique Ruzicka on Monday, October 4, 2010

As I sit here munching away at my packet of fatty, chilli biltong, I can't help but wonder what all the fuss was about with Lady Gaga wearing that raw meat dress and clutching a meat purse? I mean sure she could have found someone more hip than Cher to hold the purse for her, but come on people wake up and smell the butchery!

Suddenly, all the animal activists on the planet were ready to tear Gaga a new one. They didn't hold anything back as they grilled the singer and claimed wearing a meat dress would affect her record sales. Personally, I think that would not be the case, unless Britney Spears shaves off her hair again and has a threesome with Christina Aguilera, and that chick from Ally McBeal who is currently married to Ellen Degeneres. Not that it's happened mind you – but I am sure there are lots of guys out there who wish it would.

The point is, I don't see People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta) et al pelting every second person in the street with stones for wearing a leather belt, leather shoes, or clutching a leather hand bag. Before you go around insulting others and pointing fingers think about it. What are your shoes made of? What is your handbag, purse, belt, and furniture made of? Are you absolutely sure your medication that you take every day has not been created thanks to animal testing. What about your beauty products? Yes, run to the vanity cupboard and tell me whether all your soaps, blusher, and other make-up has the 'not tested on animals label on it'. If it doesn't feature that label, if you have answered yes to any of the above questions, and you are an animal rights activist that has criticised others for being 'cruel' to animals, then shame on you for being such a hypocrite!

Before I start getting hate mail (please don't send it in the post as I'd like you to conserve the environment) I have to say that I am an utter animal lover. Dogs, cats, horses, budgies, you name it, I love it. I believe animals should be free as much as the next person. I think it's sad that animals are kept in cages, that we are killing the rain forest, taking over the planet, and poaching rhinos and other wildlife for sport. Don't even get me started on what I think of poachers - did you see the expose Carte Blanche (a South African show) made about poaching last night? If not see, click here.

It was horrible to see how people treat rhino, and leave them for dead just to get their horns. We have to dispel the myth that the rhino horn has any kind of health benefits.

But to all those insane animal activists that wear leather belts, leather shoes and sport leather handbags and purses, I say: let them eat meat...and allow Lady Gaga to wear biltong if she so desires.
